Though the hikers and backpacker are self-reliant and self-motivated in their own ways, yet at times they make few silly mistakes which go against them during a longer route. Its ok make mistakes as we all started off at some point, we are all beginners, take notes of some of those common silly mistakes while hiking and backpacking which should definitely be avoided in order to have a hassle less travel experience.
Not eating and drinking enough
Hiking needs a lot of energy, I repeat, A LOT OF ENERGY. Eating and drinking less will only leave you low and starving which will surely cause you trouble to hike enthusiastically.
Wearing new shoes/boots
It’s a really common silly mistake while hiking and backpacking to wear new boots and wander, you will end up ruining it simple. It’s better to use the old shoes which you find the most comforting as while hiking comfort is all you should worry for.
Packing too much
Packing light is always helpful, if you carry too many chances are you will end up keeping the stuff and your bags will be too heavy to carry, here’s when the blunder starts. So try to pack as little as you can so that you have more time wandering and hiking.
Not considering the weather
You may be pro but while hiking, weather situations cannot be ignored. You should definitely see how poor the weather conditions can go and be ready and prepared for the worst so that you don’t face any obstacle.
Be very cautious about your timings, avoid eating and hiking simultaneously. You can be careless in other terms but for some things while hiking and backpacking time management is essential.
Carrying canned food
I once tried carrying canned food with me, I was helpful it was my mom’s wish to eat healthy during such adventure, but all I ended up to was bearing the circumstances, no the food was ok, but the cans were way too heavy to carry, it just made my trip worse, it was not only useless and heavy but it was also wasted as I cannot store the left one, so I preferred cooking my own food.
I think you will not prefer the messy sweaty jeans while hiking, it is surely comfortable for such adventures but no I will not advise so, wearing light weighted trousers or slacks will surely help.
Cooking in your tent
Would you like to shout out for help while your tent is all on fire and end up getting accompanied by only monkeys and parrots? No right? So avoid cooking your food inside the tent, consider the fact that you have the whole other area for it so precaution is better than cure.
Leave No Trace
Humans have bad habit of leaving what they use, as it is, but it’s a usual and most common hiking rule to leave no trace [LNT] when you end up hiking. Carry a garbage bag to throw all the litter in it, and other stuff should immediately be removed for the sake of hygiene.
Hike your own hike
Copying and following others while traveling works but not here, while hiking and backpacking, just hike your own hike, don’t copy others because that’s what their comfort zone starts and ends, you have your own challenges and ends. Follow that.
Ignoring warning signs
The worst you can do to yourself is to avoid the warning signs that cone across your way in the wilderness, consider the fact that they are there for a reason, not to avoid but to be followed. So don’t ignore such warning as they may act as a shield, later.
